How Do You Add Variants in Figma?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 12:19 am

Adding variants in Figma is a breeze! There are two ways to do it:

Method 1: Select the layer you want to add variants to, then click the “plus” icon in the top right corner of the Inspector panel. This will open the Add Variant window, where you can specify the name and properties of your variant.

Method 2: Alternatively, you can click the “Create Variant” button in the bottom left corner of the canvas. This will open the Add Variant window as well.

Once you’ve added your variant, it will appear in the Variants panel. From here, you can activate or deactivate variants, as well as edit their properties.

PRO TIP: If you are working on a design in Figma and want to add variants, be aware that there is currently a known issue with adding variants to groups. This issue can cause your variants to be duplicated or deleted, so use caution when adding variants to groups. We recommend only adding variants to individual objects, rather than groups, until this issue is resolved.

Conclusion:

There you have it! Two quick and easy methods for adding variants in Figma. Be sure to experiment with different settings to find what works best for your project.
