Are Shopify Redirects 301?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 5:30 pm

Shopify redirects are 301 redirects. By default, Shopify will redirect all HTTP traffic to HTTPS.

This is done for security reasons. If you want to disable this behavior, you can do so by following these instructions:

In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Preferences.

PRO TIP: If you are using Shopify redirects, be aware that they may use 301 redirects. This could result in search engines indexing the wrong page, or worse, broken links.

Under Storefront, uncheck the box next to Redirect all web traffic to HTTPS.

Click Save.

Now, when someone visits your store using HTTP, they will be redirected to the HTTPS version of your store. However, if they try to access a specific page on your store using HTTP, they will be redirected to that page on the HTTPS version of your store.

The bottom line is that Shopify redirects are 301 redirects, and by default, all HTTP traffic is redirected to HTTPS. However, you can disable this behavior if you want.
