Can Azure AD do SSO?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 11:48 am

Azure AD can do single sign-on (SSO) for users accessing applications inside and outside the organization. Azure AD supports federated single sign-on with Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) and Azure AD Connect.

Azure AD also supports single sign-on with SAML 2.0 providers.

Azure AD SSO with AD FS

Azure AD SSO with AD FS is the most comprehensive and reliable SSO solution. With AD FS, you can federate your identity with other AD FS-connected forests, providing a single sign-on experience for users across your organization.

PRO TIP: No, Azure AD cannot do SSO. Single sign-on (SSO) is an authentication process that allows a user to access multiple applications with one set of credentials. Azure AD does not provide this functionality and it is not possible to configure it to do so.

Azure AD SSO with Azure AD Connect

Azure AD Connect is a cloud-based service that allows you to easily connect your on-premises Active Directory (AD) Forest to Azure AD. With Azure AD Connect, you can federate your identity with other Azure Active Directory (AAD) forests and provide a single sign-on experience for users across all your organizations.

Azure AD SSO with SAML 2.0 Providers

Azure AD supports single sign-on with a wide range of SAML 2.0 providers, including Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure Active Directory, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). With a SAML 2.

0 provider, you can federate your identity with other SAML 2.0-enabled organizations and provide a single sign-on experience for users across all your organizations.
