Can Figma Edit Photos?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 10:09 pm

Figma is a vector illustrations software that has gained a lot of popularity in recent years. For those who don’t know, vector illustrations are images that are made up of mathematical points, which makes them resolution-independent and perfect for use in things like logos and illustrations that need to be scaled to different sizes.

Figma is similar to Adobe Illustrator, but it’s a lot more user-friendly and has some features that Illustrator doesn’t have.

One of the great things about Figma is that it’s web-based, which means you can access your files from anywhere and you don’t need to download or install anything. It also has a very intuitive interface that makes it easy to learn and use.

But can Figma edit photos? The short answer is no, Figma cannot edit photos.

However, there are some workaround methods that you can use to achieve a similar effect. We’ll go over some of those methods below.

Workaround Method #1: Use the Trace tool

The Trace tool in Figma can be used to convert raster images (images made up of pixels) into vector shapes. This is perfect for converting photos into illustrations or for creating graphics with a hand-drawn look.

To use the Trace tool:

1. Select the Trace tool from the toolbar on the left side of the screen (it looks like a pen).

2. Click on the image that you want to trace. 3.

A new window will open up with some tracing options. 4. Adjust the options until you’re happy with the results, then click “Trace.” 5. Your image will now be converted into vector shapes!

PRO TIP: Figma is not a photo editing tool. If you try to edit a photo in Figma, you may lose data or your work may be corrupted.

Workaround Method #2: Use clipping masks

If you only need to edit a small section of an image, you can use clipping masks to isolate that section and make it easier to work with. Clipping masks are an easy way to crop images without actually deleting any pixels.

To create a clipping mask:

  1. Select the Rectangle tool from the toolbar on the left side of the screen (it looks like a rectangle).
  2. Click and drag your mouse to draw a rectangle around the area that you want to isolate.
  3. Click on “Edit” in the top menu bar, then click “Clipping Mask” and “Create Clipping Mask.”

Your image will now be cropped! You can move or resize the rectangle at any time to change what part of the image is being isolated.

Workaround Method #3: Export as a .png or .jpg file

If all else fails, you can always export your image as a .jpg file and then open it in another program like Photoshop or GIMP for further editing.

Conclusion: Can Figma Edit Photos?

Figma is great for creating vector illustrations, but it cannot edit photos directly. However, there are some workaround methods that you can use to achieve a similar effect.
