Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 6:17 am

Customizing a Wix template can be a daunting task, but with a little bit of know-how, it’s not too hard. If you’re looking to make a significant change to a template, it’s best to start by creating a new template from scratch.

However, if you just want to tweak a specific element or add a new one, there are a few things you can do.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

1. Add or Remove Columns

One of the most basic ways to customize a Wix template is to add or remove columns. This is particularly helpful if you want to create a template that’s shorter or wider than the default.

Simply click on the “Columns” tab on the left-hand side of the template editor and select the columns you want to add or remove.

2. Change the Layout

You can also change the layout of a Wix template by clicking on the “Layout” tab and selecting one of the available options. This includes options like horizontal and vertical splitters, as well as column and row dividers.

3. Add Custom CSS

If you want to add your own custom CSS to a Wix template, you can do so by clicking on the “CSS” tab and adding any rules you want. This is a great way to add your own style to a template without having to edit any HTML.

4. Change the Logo

If you want to change the logo that appears on a Wix template, you can do so by clicking on the “Logos” tab and selecting a new logo from the list. You can also change the size, color, and font of the logo.

PRO TIP: If you are considering customizing a Wix template, be aware that there are risks involved. Wix templates are designed to be easily customizable, but this does not mean that every change you make will be successful. It is possible to break the template or create errors that will prevent your website from working correctly. Before making any changes, be sure to create a backup of your site and test the changes on a staging server or local development environment.

5. Change the Background

If you want to change the background color of a Wix template, you can do so by clicking on the “Background” tab and selecting a new color from the list. You can also change the opacity of the background color.

6. Change the Theme

If you want to change the theme of a Wix template, you can do so by clicking on the “Themes” tab and selecting a different theme from the list. There are a variety of theme options available, so you should be able to find one that suits your needs.

7. Change the Background Image

If you want to change the background image of a Wix template, you can do so by clicking on the “Background Images” tab and selecting a new image from the list. You can also change the size, color, and position of the background image.

8. Change the Background Image Settings

If you want to change the settings for a background image, you can do so by clicking on the “Background Image Settings” tab and selecting the appropriate options. This includes the ability to set the image as the background of a specific column or row, as well as the ability to set a image as the background of the entire template.

9. Change the Background Image Settings for Specific Columns or Rows

If you want to change the settings for a background image only for specific columns or rows, you can do so by clicking on the “Background Image Settings” tab and selecting the appropriate options.

10. Add a Background Image

If you want to add a background image to a Wix template, you can do so by clicking on the “Background Images” tab and selecting a new image from the list.
