Can I Host My Own Squarespace Site?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 7:33 am

You can absolutely host your own Squarespace site! In fact, we encourage it.

We think it’s a great way to get started with your web presence and to learn a bit about web hosting and domain names. And, of course, it’s a lot of fun.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when you’re hosting your own site:

1. You’ll need to register a domain name. This is the address people will type in to visit your site.

You can register a domain name through Squarespace or through a third-party provider. We have a few suggestions for domain name providers in our Help Center.

2. You’ll need to set up web hosting. This is where your website’s files will live.

Once you have registered a domain name, you can set up web hosting through Squarespace or through a third-party provider. We have more information on web hosting in our Help Center.

3. Use the DNS settings from your web host. Once you have registered your domain name and set up web hosting, you’ll need to point your domain name to your web host.

This is called “DNS settings.” Each web host has different DNS settings, so be sure to use the DNS settings from your web host and not from Squarespace. You can find instructions for doing this in our Help Center.

Once you’ve completed these steps, you’re ready to start building your site! We have lots of resources to help you get started, including video tutorials, articles in our Help Center, and 24/7 email support from our award-winning Customer Care team.

Can I Host My Own Squarespace Site?

Yes, you can most certainly host your own Squarespace site! We actually encourage it as it’s a great way to get started with having a web presence and learn about hosting domains and websites simultaneously. Plus, it’s always fun to be in charge of everything from start to finish.

PRO TIP: If you are considering hosting your own Squarespace site, be aware that there are some risks involved. First and foremost, if you do not have a reliable and fast internet connection, your site will likely load slowly or not at all. Additionally, if you do not have experience with web hosting or website development, you may run into difficulties setting up and maintaining your site. Finally, unless you purchase a premium plan, your site will include Squarespace branding, which may not be ideal if you are hoping to establish a professional or sophisticated image.
