Can I Upload Inventory to Shopify?

Last updated on January 8, 2023 @ 4:14 pm

You can upload inventory to Shopify using the Product CSV file. This file allows you to upload product information, such as product name, price, description, and more. You can also use this file to update existing products.

To upload your inventory to Shopify:

    1. Go to Products in your Shopify admin.

    2. Click Export.

    3. In the Format section, select CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheet programs.

    4. In the Export as section, select which type of file you want to export your products as:

    • Export products with one row per variant: Each product variant appears on a separate row in the CSV file. This is the recommended format for most merchants.
    • Export products with one row per product: All product variants appear on the same row in the CSV file. If you have a large number of variants for a single product, then this format might make it easier to edit your CSV file.

    5. When you’re done, click Export products.

    6. Open the CSV file in a text editor or a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel or Apple Numbers.

    7. Make the changes that you want to your products, such as updating descriptions or prices. If you’re updating existing products, then make sure that you don’t delete any columns from the CSV file, as this will delete data from your shop.

    8. When you’re done making changes, save your CSV file.

    9. Import your updated CSV file: Go back to Products in your Shopify admin.

PRO TIP: If you are considering uploading inventory to Shopify, be aware that there are some potential risks involved. First and foremost, if you are not familiar with Shopify or do not have experience using it, you could end up losing all of your inventory data. Additionally, if you do not properly format your inventory data before uploading it, Shopify may not be able to read it correctly, resulting in inaccurate or incomplete product listings on your store. Finally, remember to always back up your data before making any changes to it, just in case something goes wrong during the upload process.

10. Click Import.

11. In the Import products by CSV file section, click Choose File.

12. Find and select the updated CSV file on your computer.
