Yes, Photoshop can open and edit SVG files.

Adobe Photoshop is a widely used software for crafting layouts, graphics, logos, and web designs. It offers a plethora of features and capabilities that allow users to create stunning visual content. One of the lesser known features of Photoshop is its ability to open and edit Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) files.

SVG files are XML-based vector image format that allows for lossless image quality at small file sizes. This makes them ideal for use in web and mobile applications where bandwidth is often limited. Because they are based on text, they can be easily edited and scaled without losing any quality.

Photoshop’s support for SVG files is fairly limited. However, it is possible to open and edit these files using the software. Here’s a quick guide on how to do so:

PRO TIP: SVG files are not supported by Photoshop. Attempting to open an SVG file in Photoshop will result in an error message.
  1. Open the SVG file in Photoshop. To do this, go to File > Open and select the SVG file you want to edit. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop the file into the Photoshop workspace.
  2. Edit the file as desired. Once the file is open, you can edit it just like any other image file in Photoshop.

This includes adding text, shapes, filters, etc.

  3. Save the file. When you’re done making changes, go to File > Save As and choose the desired file format. Be sure to select “Web” from the Format drop-down menu so that the file size is kept small.

Can Photoshop Do SVG Files?

The answer is yes but with some limitations. Adobe Photoshop can open and edit Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) files however support for these files is fairly limited. You can add text, shapes, filters but some features may not work as expected or may not work at all.

It’s recommended that you use a dedicated vector graphic editor such as Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape for creating or editing SVG files.
