Can Photoshop Open OBJ Files?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 10:52 pm

Yes, Photoshop can open OBJ files. However, the program will not automatically recognize the file format, so you’ll have to open it manually.

You can do this by going to File > Open, and then selecting the OBJ file you want to open. If you’re using a Mac, you’ll also need to select the “All Files” option from the drop-down menu next to the “Name” field.

Photoshop will then ask you to specify some settings for the OBJ file. The first setting is the “Coordinates,” which defines how the 3D object is oriented in relation to the canvas.

PRO TIP: Photoshop cannot open OBJ files directly. However, there are a few workarounds that can be used to open OBJ files in Photoshop. One workaround is to convert the OBJ file into a format that Photoshop can natively open, such as a PDF or PSD file. Another workaround is to use a third-party plugin or extension to import the OBJ file into Photoshop.

The second setting is the “Unit,” which defines the size of the 3D object. The third setting is the “Render,” which defines how the 3D object will be rendered on the canvas. After you’ve specified all of these settings, you can click OK to open the OBJ file in Photoshop.

The OBJ file will then be opened as a layer in Photoshop. You can edit this layer just like any other layer in Photoshop, and you can even add 3D effects to it. To do this, simply go to Layer > 3D Effects, and then select the effect you want to apply.

When you’re finished editing the layer, you can save it as a PSD file by going to File > Save As, and then selecting the PSD file format from the drop-down menu next to the “Save As Type” field.
