Can Shopify Generate SKU Numbers?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 2:14 pm

PRO TIP: If you are using Shopify to generate SKU numbers for your products, be aware that there is a potential for error. The SKU numbers that Shopify generates are based on the product information that you enter into the system. If any of this information is incorrect, the SKU number will be incorrect as well. This can lead to inventory problems and other issues down the line.

SKU numbers are product codes used by retailers to track inventory. Shopify, an ecommerce platform, does not generate SKU numbers for products automatically, but you can add them manually through the “Edit Products” page in your Shopify admin.

You can add SKU numbers to products individually or in bulk. To add a SKU number to a product individually:

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > All products. 2. Click the name of the product you want to add a SKU number to.

3. In the Inventory section, enter the SKU number in the SKU field. 4. Click Save.

To add SKU numbers to multiple products at once:

1. Select the checkbox next to each product you want to update. 3.

In the Bulk actions menu, select Edit properties. In the dialog that appears, select SKU from the Property drop-down menu. 5. Enter the SKU number in the Value field, and click Save changes.

Adding SKU numbers to your products can help you keep track of your inventory levels and reorder stock when necessary.
