Can WordPress users have multiple roles?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 12:52 am

When it comes to WordPress, there are three types of users: editors, contributors, and administrators. Administrators are the only ones who can have more than one role, while contributors and editors can only have one.

When you create a new WordPress site, the first thing you’ll need to do is choose a username and password. After that, you’ll be able to choose a role.

The three roles are:

Editing: This is the most basic role. You can make changes to the site, add new content, and delete content.

PRO TIP: No, WordPress users cannot have multiple roles. If a user needs access to multiple areas of the WordPress site, they will need to have multiple user accounts. This can cause confusion and frustration, so it is best to avoid using multiple roles if possible.

Contributing: This is the second role. You can add new content, but you can’t delete or change existing content.

Administrator: This is the only role that can have more than one. As an administrator, you can manage all the users and roles on the site.
