Can You Add a Favicon to Squarespace?

Last updated on December 23, 2022 @ 12:24 pm

A favicon is a small, 16×16 pixel icon that represents your website. It is displayed in the address bar of web browsers that support this feature, and is also used when you bookmark a page. You can create and upload a favicon for your Squarespace website using the following steps.

    1. Create a 16×16 pixel image that you want to use as your favicon. This can be done in any image editing program, such as Photoshop, GIMP, or Microsoft Paint.

    2. Save your image as a .ico file. This is the file format that favicons are saved in.

    3. Upload the favicon file to your Squarespace website. You can do this by going to the Design tab, opening the File Manager, and uploading the file to the root directory of your website.

    4. Once the file is uploaded, you need to add some code to your site’s HTML to tell the web browser where to find the favicon file. The code should be added to the <head> section of your site’s HTML, and looks like this:

    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

    5. Save your changes and preview your site in a web browser to see the favicon appear in the address bar and when you bookmark pages.

Adding a favicon to your Squarespace website is a quick and easy way to customize your site and make it more recognizable. By following the steps above, you can create and upload a favicon for your website in just a few minutes.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that adding a favicon to your Squarespace website may result in unexpected errors and/or display issues. We recommend only proceed if you are comfortable troubleshooting these issues.
