Can You Do Motion in Figma?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 11:34 pm

Figma is a vector-based design tool that is gaining popularity in the design community. One of its key features is the ability to animate designs, which makes it a powerful tool for prototyping. But can you do motion in Figma?

The answer is yes! Figma has a built-in animation feature that lets you add animations to your designs.

To do this, simply select the layer you want to animate and click the “Animate” button in the toolbar. This will open the animation panel, where you can add your animations.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that Figma is not currently designed for complex motion graphics. While you can create simple animations within Figma, we recommend using another program such as After Effects for more advanced projects.

There are a few things to keep in mind when animating in Figma. First, animations are applied to the entire layer, so if you want to animate a specific element, you’ll need to create a separate layer for it.

Secondly, Figma only supports two types of animations: transitions and keyframes. Transitions are simple animations that occur when an element is added or removed from a frame, while keyframes are more complex animations that can be used to create things like scrolling effects or bouncing buttons.

Overall, Figma’s animation feature is a powerful tool that can be used to create sophisticated prototypes. However, it’s important to understand the limitations of the tool before using it for your next project.
