Can You Do Vector in Photoshop?

Vector illustrations are usually done in vector drawing programs like Adobe Illustrator, but Photoshop also has some vector tools. You can’t do a full-fledged vector drawing in Photoshop, but you can use the pen tool to create vector shapes and paths. These shapes and paths can then be exported to Illustrator or another vector program.

The pen tool is the key to creating vector shapes in Photoshop. With the pen tool, you can click to create anchor points and then drag to create curves.

To create a straight line, click twice without dragging. You can also convert a path into a shape by right-clicking on the path and selecting “Make Work Path. ”

Once you have created a vector shape or path, you can stroke it with a color or pattern, fill it with a color or pattern, or use it as a clipping mask. To stroke or fill a path, select it with the pen tool and then choose a brush from the Brushes panel. To use a path as a clipping mask, first create a shape layer and then place the path layer below it in the layer stack.

PRO TIP: Vector graphics are not supported in Photoshop. If you try to open a vector graphic in Photoshop, you will receive the following warning message: “This file contains vector data that will not be rasterized upon opening.”

You can also use Photoshop’s vector tools to create type. To create type on a path, select the pen tool and click on the canvas where you want the type to start.

Then drag the pen tool along the path you want the type to follow. When you release the mouse button, a text box will appear. Type your text into this box and then format it using the Type menu.

To create type that’s not on a path, select the type tool from the toolbar and click on the canvas where you want the text to start. Then type your text and format it using the Type menu.

Conclusion: While you cannot do full-fledged vector drawings in Photoshop, you can use the pen tool to create vector shapes and paths.
