Can You Edit Shopify Code?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 5:07 pm

If you’re new to Shopify, you might be wondering if you can edit the code. The short answer is yes, but the more important question is whether or not you should.

Shopify is a platform that was built for people who aren’t developers. It’s designed to be easy to use and easy to customize, without having to touch a single line of code. However, there are some people who want or need to edit the code.

If you’re not a developer, we recommend hiring one to make any changes you need. They’ll be able to do it faster and they’ll know exactly what they’re doing.

PRO TIP: If you are not a Shopify Partner or an Expert, then you are not able to edit Shopify code. Any changes you make to your theme code will be overwritten when you update your theme.

However, if you are a developer, or if you’re comfortable working with code, then editing Shopify’s code is definitely an option. In fact, it’s one of the things that makes Shopify so flexible.

Just remember that anytime you make changes to the code, there’s a risk that something could break. So be sure to test everything thoroughly before making your changes live.

In conclusion, yes – you can edit Shopify code, but we recommend only doing so if you’re comfortable working with code and willing to accept the risks that come with making changes.
