Can You Freehand Draw in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 12:54 am

Yes! You can freehand draw in Photoshop using a graphic tablet, or even your mouse. There are some brushes that are specifically designed for freehand drawing, like the Ink Pen brush, or the Paintbrush tool.

If you’re using a mouse, you can select the Pencil tool from the Toolbox, and then set the Tip Shape to “Round” with a hardness of 100%. This will give you a nice, round brush tip for drawing. If you’re using a graphic tablet, you can select the Brush tool and then choose one of the preset brushes from the Brushes panel.

PRO TIP: While it is possible to freehand draw in Photoshop, it is not recommended. The results can often be unpredictable and may not produce the desired effect.

To draw with either of these tools, simply click and drag your mouse or stylus across the canvas. To change the color of your brush stroke, simply click on the Foreground color swatch in the Toolbox and choose a new color.

One thing to keep in mind when drawing with Photoshop is that the default layer blending mode is “Normal.” This means that your brush strokes will be opaque. If you want to create more translucent strokes, you can change the layer blending mode to “Screen” or “Multiply.”

So there you have it! Now go forth and create some beautiful art!
