Can You Have a Private Shopify Store?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 4:24 pm

If you have a Shopify account, you can make your store private so that only logged in customers can see it. This is useful if you want to sell products to a specific group of people, or if you want to test out a new store before making it public.

To make your Shopify store private, you need to enable password protection in the settings. Once you’ve done that, anyone who tries to visit your store will be prompted to enter a password.

Password protecting your Shopify store is a good way to keep it private, but there are a few things to keep in mind. First, anyone who has the password will be able to see your store, so make sure to choose a password that only people who should have access will know. Second, search engines like Google will not be able to index your store if it’s password protected, so anyone who tries to find it via a search engine will not be able to see it.

Finally, making your store private will not hide it from people who already have the direct URL. If you want to completely hide your store from the public, you’ll need to put it in “maintenance mode.”

PRO TIP: If you are thinking about setting up a private Shopify store, there are a few things you should be aware of. First, private Shopify stores are not accessible to the general public. This means that only people with the link to your store will be able to see it and make purchases. Secondly, private Shopify stores do not appear in search engines, so it will be difficult for potential customers to find your store unless you promote it through other channels. Finally, because private Shopify stores are not visible to the general public, they may not generate as much traffic or sales as a public store.

Maintenance mode is a feature that allows you to temporarily disable your shop so that only logged in customers can see it. This is useful if you’re making changes to your shop and don’t want the public to see it until everything is finished.

To enable maintenance mode, go to the settings page and toggle the switch next to “Enable Maintenance Mode.” Once you’ve done that, anyone who tries to visit your shop will see a message saying that it’s currently unavailable.

Can You Have a Private Shopify Store?

Yes, you can have a private Shopify store by enabling password protection or putting it in maintenance mode. Both of these options will prevent anyone who isn’t logged in from seeing your store. Keep in mind that making your store private won’t hide it from people who already have the direct URL, so if you want to completely hide your store, you’ll need to put it in maintenance mode.
