Can You Install Google Tag Manager on Shopify Basic?

Last updated on January 12, 2023 @ 4:26 pm

The quick answer is yes, you can install Google Tag Manager on Shopify Basic. However, there are a few things to keep in mind before you do.

First, you need to have a Google Tag Manager account. If you don’t have one, you can sign up for free at the Google Tag Manager website.

Once you have an account, you’ll need to create a container. A container is like a “bucket” that holds all of your tags. You can create a container through the Google Tag Manager interface.

PRO TIP: There is no official Google Tag Manager integration for Shopify Basic. While it is possible to install Google Tag Manager on Shopify Basic, it is not recommended as it can lead to instability and errors on your store.

Once you’ve created your container, you’ll need to get the code snippet from Google Tag Manager and add it to your Shopify theme. The easiest way to do this is to use the Code injection feature in the Shopify theme editor.

In the Code injection section of the theme editor, you’ll need to add the code snippet to the < head > section of your theme. Once you’ve done that, click Save and then Publish your changes.

That’s it! You’ve now successfully installed Google Tag Manager on Shopify Basic.
