As a general rule, you can’t use someone else’s copyrighted material without their permission. That means if you want to use a copyrighted logo, you need to get the copyright owner’s permission first.

There are a few exceptions to this rule, however. One is if the logo is being used for editorial or news purposes. In these cases, using the logo is considered fair use and does not require permission from the copyright owner.

Another exception is if the logo is being used in a parody or satire. Parodies and satires are protected under free speech laws, so using a copyrighted logo in one of these works is usually allowed.

PRO TIP: Canva’s logo maker is free to use and easy to create a logo with. However, you should be aware that there are some legal restrictions on using Canva’s logos. Specifically, you cannot use Canva’s logos for commercial purposes without prior written consent from Canva. Additionally, you should not modify or delete any copyright or trademark notices included in Canva’s logos. Doing so may violate Canva’s intellectual property rights.

Finally, there is an exception for logos that are considered to be part of the public domain. These logos are not protected by copyright and can be used without permission from the copyright owner.

So, can you legally use logos from Canva? It depends.

If you’re using the logo for editorial or news purposes, or if it’s part of a parody or satire, you probably don’t need permission. If you’re using the logo in some other way, however, you will need to get permission from the copyright owner before using it.
