Can You Sell Products on Squarespace Personal?

Last updated on December 12, 2022 @ 1:19 pm

If you’ve ever thought about setting up a website to sell products, you may have considered using Squarespace. Squarespace is a popular website builder that offers users a wide range of templates and tools to create a professional-looking website.

One of the questions we get asked most often is whether you can sell products on a Squarespace Personal plan. The answer is yes! While Squarespace doesn’t offer eCommerce features on its Personal plans, you can still use Squarespace to sell products by linking to an external eCommerce platform like Shopify, BigCommerce, or WooCommerce.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Sign up for a Squarespace Personal plan. You can start out with a 14-day free trial to see if Squarespace is right for you. Once you’ve decided to continue using Squarespace, you can choose from one of three Personal plans:
    • Personal Plan: $12 per month (billed annually) or $16 per month (billed monthly)
    • Personal Plan with Domain: $20 per month (billed annually) or $26 per month (billed monthly)
    • Personal Plan with Domain and G Suite: $30 per month (billed annually) or $36 per month (billed monthly).
  1. Choose a template. Once you’ve signed up for a Squarespace Personal plan, it’s time to choose a template for your website.

You can browse throughSquarespace’s template library and preview any of the templates to see how they would look with your content.

  1. Create pages for your products. Once you’ve chosen a template, you can start adding content to your website. For each product you want to sell, create a new page and add information about the product, such as photos, descriptions, pricing, and any other relevant details.
  1. (Optional) Set up an external eCommerce platform. If you want to take payments directly on your website, you’ll need to set up an external eCommerce platform like Shopify, BigCommerce, or WooCommerce. These platforms will allow you to accept payments and process orders on your website. Once you’ve set up your eCommerce platform, you can link to it from your Squarespace website.
  1. (Optional) Add buy buttons. If you’re not using an external eCommerce platform, you can still add buy buttons to your product pages. Buy buttons are links that allow visitors to purchase your products without leaving your website. To add buy buttons to your product pages:
    1. In the Home Menu, click Pages.
    2. Click the page where you want to add buy buttons.
    3. In the Page Settings panel on the right, click Commerce.
    4. Under “Checkout”, select Buy Button from the dropdown menu.
    5. In the “Product” field, select the product(s) you want to add buy buttons for.
    6. Click Apply.

Your product page will now have buy buttons that link directly to the checkout page on your chosen eCommerce platform.

You can sell products on Squarespace Personal by linking to an external ecommerce platform or by adding buy buttons directly on your product pages.

PRO TIP: If you are thinking about selling products on your Squarespace Personal site, there are a few things you should know. First, Squarespace Personal sites do not include ecommerce features, so you will not be able to accept payments or sell products directly through your site. You will need to use a third-party service like PayPal or Gumroad to set up payment processing. Additionally, Squarespace Personal sites are not designed for large amounts of traffic, so if you are expecting a lot of sales, you may want to consider upgrading to a Squarespace Business site.
