Can you trace in Illustrator?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 7:14 pm

Tracing in Illustrator is a great way to create a replica of an image or object. The process is simple and can be done with a few simple steps. There are a few different tools that can be used for tracing, but the simplest is the Pen Tool. To start tracing, first select the object or image that you want to copy.

PRO TIP: When tracing an image in Adobe Illustrator, it is important to use the correct settings to avoid losing quality in the image. The default settings for tracing are set to “High Quality,” but these can be changed to “Low Quality” or “Medium Quality” in the Tracing Options dialog box. If you are not satisfied with the results of the tracing, you can also try manually tracing the image.

Next, use the Pen Tool to create a straight line from the top left corner of the object to the bottom right corner. Once the line is created, hold down the Alt (Option on the Mac) key and drag the line downwards to create a copy of the object. You can also use the Pen Tool to create shapes, like circles or squares, by pressing the Shift key while drawing the line. To finish tracing the object, simply release the Alt (Option on the Mac) key and the object will be copied.
