Question 1 – Is the Client’s UpWork History Good?
You can check a client’s history on UpWork by clicking on their name and then selecting “View Public Profile.” This will show you their feedback rating, as well as any public feedback they’ve received. If they have a high feedback rating and positive feedback, they’re likely a good client to work with. If they have a low feedback rating or negative feedback, you might want to think twice about applying to their gig.
Question 2 – Is the Client’s Job Description Clear?
When you’re looking at a client’s job posting, make sure that their job description is clear. If it’s vague or confusing, it’s likely that the client doesn’t really know what they want.
This can lead to frustration on your part, so it’s best to avoid these types of gigs.
Question 3 – Does the Client Seem Rushed?
If a client seems rushed or impatient in their job posting, it’s likely that they’ll be the same way to work with. These types of clients can be difficult to please, so it’s best to avoid them if possible.
Before applying to any Upwork gig, be sure to ask yourself the following 8 questions:

2. What is the client’s feedback score?
3. What is the client’s job success score?
4. How many hours have they worked on Upwork?
5. What is their hourly rate?
6. What is their level of experience?
7. What is their country of residence?
Question 4 – Is the Client Asking for Too Much?
Some clients will ask for more than what is reasonable, such as asking for 10 articles when they’re only willing to pay $10. If a client is asking for too much work for too little pay, it’s best to pass on their gig.
Question 5 – Is the Client Willing to Pay a Fair Wage?
When you’re looking at a gig, make sure that the pay is fair. You can use sites like Payscale or Glassdoor to research what similar jobs pay in your area. If the pay is significantly lower than what others are paying, it’s best to avoid the gig.
Question 6 – Does the Client Have Realistic Expectations?
Some clients will have unrealistic expectations, such as expecting you to work 24 hours per day or finish a project in an impossibly short amount of time. If you see any red flags like this in the job posting, it’s best to steer clear.
