Does Closing Shopify Store Delete It?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 6:44 pm

It’s a common question asked by many new Shopify entrepreneurs: “If I close my Shopify store, does it delete it?” The answer is no, closing your Shopify store does not delete it.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind if you’re considering closing your store.

First and foremost, if you close your Shopify store, your domain name will become available for someone else to purchase. So if you’re planning on re-opening your store at some point in the future, you’ll need to purchase a new domain name.

Additionally, all of your data (orders, products, customers, etc.) will still be stored in your Shopify account even after you close your store.

PRO TIP: If you are thinking about closing your Shopify store, be aware that this will permanently delete your store and all of its data. There is no way to recover a deleted store, so if you’re not sure that you want to close your store for good, we recommend pausing it instead.

That being said, there are a few ways to “delete” your Shopify store if that’s what you’re looking to do. One way is to simply cancel your Shopify plan. This will cause your store to be inaccessible to anyone (including yourself), and all of your data will be deleted after 30 days.

Another way to delete your store is to delete your Shopify account entirely. This can be done from the Account page in your Shopify admin. Keep in mind that this action cannot be undone, and all of your data will be permanently deleted.

So in short, closing your Shopify store does not delete it. However, there are a few ways to “delete” your store if that’s what you’re looking for.

If you’re considering closing your Shopify store, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Your domain name will become available for someone else to purchase
  • All of your data (orders, products, customers) will still be stored in your Shopify account
