Does Shopify Automate Shipping?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 8:12 pm

When it comes to ecommerce platforms, Shopify is one of the most popular choices out there. And for good reason – it’s user-friendly, has a wide range of features and integrations, and is relatively affordable. Plus, it has some great built-in tools to help you run your online store smoothly and efficiently.

One thing that Shopify is particularly well-known for is its shipping capabilities. In fact, many people choose Shopify specifically because of its shipping features – which is understandable, as shipping can be a real headache when you’re running an online store. So in this article, we’re going to take a look at Shopify shipping and answer the question: does Shopify automate shipping?

The short answer is yes, Shopify does automate shipping to some extent. However, it’s important to understand exactly what this means and how it works, as there are some limitations to what Shopify can do.

PRO TIP: Shopify does not automate shipping. You will need to set up your shipping preferences and rates in your Shopify admin.

When we say that Shopify automates shipping, we mean that it can automatically calculate shipping rates for orders placed on your store. This is based on the weight and dimensions of the products in the order, as well as the delivery location. Once you’ve set up your shipping zones and rates in your Shopify settings (more on that below), Shopify will be able to calculate the shipping cost for each order and add it to the total cost at checkout.

However, there are some limitations to this. For example, Shopify can’t automatically print shipping labels or book courier pickups. This means that you’ll still need to do these things manually – although there are some apps that can help with this (more on that later).

Another thing to keep in mind is that while Shopify can automate the calculation of shipping rates, it’s up to you to set these rates in the first place. This involves adding your products’ weights and dimensions into your product listings, as well as setting up your shipping zones and rates in your Shopify settings. Doing all of this can be time-consuming – but once it’s done, you won’t need to worry about it again (unless you make changes to your products or shipping rates).

Overall, then, while Shopify does automate shipping to some extent, there are still some manual tasks involved in running your store’s shipping process. However, there are also some great apps available that can help automate other parts of the process – making things even easier for you.
