Does Shopify Support OAuth?

Shopify does support OAuth.

What is OAuth?

OAuth is an authentication protocol that allows users to approve application to access their data. It’s a way to login without entering your password.

How does it work?

When you register for an account with Shopify, you’re asked to enter your email address and password. But when you try to login to Shopify using OAuth, you’re redirected to the login page of the provider you’re using (in this case, Facebook).

You then enter your credentials on the provider’s login page and are redirected back to Shopify. If everything went well, you’ll be logged in without having to enter your password on Shopify.

PRO TIP: Shopify does not support OAuth. Any apps that require OAuth will not work with Shopify.

What are the benefits?

There are a few benefits to using OAuth:

  • It’s more secure: Since you’re not sharing your password with Shopify, it’s more difficult for someone to hack into your account.
  • It’s easier: You don’t have to remember a separate password for Shopify. As long as you remember your password for the provider you’re using (Facebook, Google, etc.), you can login to Shopify with just a click.
  • It’s faster:: OAuth can be faster than traditional authentication because it doesn’t require filling out a form and waiting for an email confirmation.

Shopify definitely supports OAuth 😎
