Does Shopify Support PWA?

Last updated on January 12, 2023 @ 3:56 pm

Shopify does not currently support Progressive Web Apps (PWA), however, they are investigating the technology and its potential benefits for merchants. In the meantime, there are a few ways to create a PWA-like experience on Shopify.

One way to create a PWA-like experience is to use Shopify’s App Bridge library. App Bridge is a JavaScript library that allows you to control your Shopify app from your own website. This means you can use App Bridge to create an app that feels like a PWA, even though it’s not technically a PWA.

Another way to create a PWA-like experience is to use Shopify’s Polaris library. Polaris is a design system that helps you create consistent and cohesive user experiences.

It includes guidelines, reusable React components, and design tools. You can use Polaris to build your own front-end framework that feels like a PWA.

PRO TIP: There is currently no official PWA support from Shopify. This may change in the future, but for now, any PWA related development should be done with caution and without expecting official support.

There are also a few third-party tools that allow you to create PWAs on Shopify. These tools include React Storefront, Angular Storefront, and Vue Storefront. each of these tools has their own pros and cons, so you’ll need to decide which one is right for you.

Conclusion:

Shopify does not currently support Progressive Web Apps (PWA), however, they are investigating the technology and its potential benefits for merchants.
