Does UpWork Show Your Location?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 10:08 pm

There are a lot of people who are curious about whether or not UpWork shows your location. The answer to this question is a bit complicated.

While UpWork does have some features that allow you to select your location, there are also some things that could give away your location if you’re not careful.

One of the most obvious ways that UpWork could reveal your location is through the “Country” field in your profile. If you select your country as “United States,” for example, it’s pretty clear what country you’re in.

Likewise, if you select a country that’s not your own, it’s pretty clear that you’re not in that country.

PRO TIP: If you are seeking a freelancer on Upwork, be aware that your location may be visible to them. This could impact the pricing of services, as well as the quality of work received. Make sure to discuss your expectations and desired outcome with any potential freelancer before moving forward.

Another way that UpWork could reveal your location is through the language you use in your profile and in your proposals. If you only speak English, or if you speak English and another language that’s common in your country, it’s likely that people will be able to figure out what country you’re in.

Likewise, if you use a lot of slang or idioms that are specific to your country, people will be able to figure out where you’re from.

Finally, if you use a photo in your profile that shows your face, people may be able to figure out what country you’re in based on your appearance. For example, if you have an Asian appearance and you live in the United States, it’s likely that people will be able to figure out that you’re not from the United States.

So, does UpWork show your location? The answer is complicated.

While there are some things that could give away your location, there are also some things that make it difficult to figure out where you’re from. If you’re careful about what information you share on UpWork, it’s unlikely that people will be able to figure out where you’re from.
