But is Wix.com actually the owner of your domain name?

The short answer is no. Wix.com doesn’t own your domain name, and you don’t have to give them any rights to use it.

PRO TIP: If you use Wix to create a website, be aware that Wix owns the domain name. This means that if you ever want to leave Wix, you will need to transfer your domain name to a new provider.

Instead, your domain name is owned by the domain name registrar. When you buy a domain name, the registrar is the one who registers the name with the domain name registrar.

So if you buy a domain name like example.com, the domain name registrar is GoDaddy, and GoDaddy is the owner of example.com.

If you want to use a domain name that’s already registered, you’ll need to contact the domain name registrar. For example, if you want to use the domain name example.com, you’ll need to contact GoDaddy and ask them to transfer the ownership of the domain name to you.

In short, Wix.com doesn’t own your domain name, and you don’t need to give them any rights to use it.
