PRO TIP: If you have a symbol group in Sketch that contains multiple variants, Figma will convert this into a single variant when imported. To detach, delete or ungroup variants, you will need to use the Figma interface.

Figma has a great feature that allows you to convert a large Sketch symbol group into a single variant. To do this, simply select the group of symbols you want to convert, then click the “Create Variant” button in the upper right corner of the canvas. Figma will automatically create a new variant for each symbol in the group, and you can then detach, delete, or ungroup the variants as needed.

This is an extremely useful feature if you’re working with a lot of symbols, as it allows you to quickly and easily create different versions of your design without having to individually edit each symbol.

To detach a variant, simply click the “Detach” button in the upper right corner of the canvas. This will break the connection between the original symbol and the variant, and you can then move or delete the variant as needed.

To delete a variant, click the “Delete” button in the upper right corner of the canvas. This will remove the variant from your design, but will not affect the original symbol.

To ungroup a variant, click the “Ungroup” button in the upper right corner of the canvas. This will remove all variants from the group, and you can then individually edit each symbol as needed.
