How can I tell if a WordPress user is logged in?

Logging In

When you first visit a WordPress site, you are asked to sign in. The sign in process requires you to provide your username and password.

If you have registered for an account, you will be asked for your registration ID and password.

If you are not logged in, you will see a sign in screen like the one shown in the figure below.

If you are not registered, or if you have forgotten your login information, you can sign in by clicking the Sign In link in the upper right corner of any WordPress page.

If you are logged in, the login screen will look like the one shown in the figure below.

If you are not logged in, but you have an account, you will see a screen like the one shown in the figure below.

If you are logged in, but you have not logged out recently, you will see a screen like the one shown in the figure below.

PRO TIP: If you are using WordPress and want to check if a user is logged in, there are a few things you can do. First, you can check the global $current_user object, which will contain information about the currently logged in user (if any). You can also use the is_user_logged_in() function, which will return true if a user is logged in, and false if not.
