How Do I Activate Multiple Automatic Discounts on Shopify?

Last updated on January 12, 2023 @ 10:26 am

Discounts are a great way to encourage customers to buy from your online store. You can offer discounts for a variety of reasons, such as loyalty programs, seasonal promotions, or simply to clear out old inventory. Whatever the reason, setting up automatic discounts on Shopify is a quick and easy way to provide your customers with savings.

In this article, we’ll show you how to activate and manage multiple automatic discounts on your Shopify store. We’ll also provide some tips on how to use discounts effectively to drive sales and grow your business.

Activating Automatic Discounts

There are two ways to activate automatic discounts on Shopify: through the Discounts page in your admin, or by adding a discount code directly to a product page.

To activate a discount from the Discounts page:
1. From your Shopify admin, go to Discounts.
2. Click Create discount.
3. In the Type section, select Automatic discount.
4. Choose the Discount value. This can be a fixed amount or percentage off the order total, or a free shipping offer.
5. In the Apply discount section, specify when and how the discount will be applied. For example, you can offer a 10% discount on all orders over $100 that are placed within the next 7 days.
6. Click Save.

Adding a discount code directly to a product page is useful if you want to offer a specific product at a discounted price. For example, you might want to offer a 10% discount on a new product that you’re launching. To do this:

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products, and then click the name of the product that you want to offer at a discount. In the Discount codes section, click Add discount code.

3. In the Code field, enter a code for the discount (for example, LAUNCH10). This code is case sensitive and must be at least 3 characters long.

If you want customers to be able to find this product easily when they’re looking for discounted items, then enter something in the Search keywords” field that describes the product (for example, “sale” or “clearance”). These keywords will help customers find the product when they search for discounted items in your store.

4. Click Save.

Your new automatic discount will now be applied to the selected product whenever it’s added to an order.

PRO TIP: If you are planning on using multiple automatic discounts on Shopify, be aware that there are some potential risks.

First, if you have multiple discounts that are triggered by the same action (such as a purchase of a certain product), only one of the discounts will be applied. This could cause confusion for customers or lead to them missing out on a discount they were expecting.

Second, if you have multiple automatic discounts that are cumulative (meaning they stack on top of each other), this could lead to order total errors at checkout. Be sure to test your discount setup thoroughly before making it live to avoid any potential issues.
