How Do I Add a Captcha to a Contact Form Wix?

Last updated on January 4, 2023 @ 1:52 pm

Adding a Captcha to your contact form is a great way to ensure that only real people are submitting your form. Captchas are those little puzzles that you have to solve before you can submit a form.

They help to keep bots from spamming your forms with fake submissions.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

Wix offers a few different options for adding a Captcha to your contact form. The most popular option is the Google reCAPTCHA.

This is a free service that helps to keep bots from spamming your forms. To add the Google reCAPTCHA to your Wix contact form, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Google reCAPTCHA site and sign up for a free account. You will need to provide your website’s URL and choose which type of reCAPTCHA you would like to use. The most common option is the “I’m not a robot” checkbox.
  2. Once you have signed up, you will be given a site key and a secret key. Copy these keys and head back over to your Wix account.
  3. In your Wix account, go to the page where you want to add the Captcha. Click on the “Add” button and then choose “More” from the drop-down menu.
  4. From the list of options, choose “HTML Code” and then click on the “Settings” button.
  5. In the HTML Settings popup, paste your Google reCAPTCHA site key into the “Site Key” field and your secret key into the “Secret Key” field. Then click on the “Update” button.
  6. Now that you have added the HTML code for the Captcha, you need to add a little bit of code to your contact form so that it will work with the Captcha. Click on the “Edit Form” button next to your contact form.
  7. In the Form Editor, click on the “Submit” button at the bottom of your form.
  8. On the Submit Button Settings popup, scroll down to the “Advanced Settings” section and paste this code into the “Custom ID” field:
<div class="g-recaptcha" data-sitekey="YOUR_SITE_KEY"></div>

Be sure to replace YOUR_SITE_KEY with your actual site key.

  1. Click on the “Update” button and then “Publish” your changes.

Your contact form should now be working with the Captcha!

PRO TIP: When adding a CAPTCHA to a contact form on Wix, be aware that there are certain risks involved. CAPTCHA can be used to block automated spam bots from submitting your form, but it can also prevent legitimate users from being able to submit your form if they cannot read the CAPTCHA correctly. Consider using an alternative method of protecting your form from spam if you are worried about preventing legitimate users from being able to submit your form.
