How Do I Add a Video to My Squarespace Site?

There are two ways to add video to your Squarespace site:

Option 1: Use our Video Block

Our Video Block makes it easy to add videos from popular providers like YouTube and Vimeo. Just copy and paste a video URL into the block, and we’ll take care of the rest.

PRO TIP: Adding a video to your Squarespace site is a great way to engage your visitors and add visual interest to your pages. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when adding videos to your site.

First, make sure that the video you are adding is hosted on a reliable and reputable site. Squarespace does not host videos, so you will need to use a third-party service like YouTube or Vimeo.

Second, be aware of the file size of the video you are adding. Videos can take up a lot of space, and if you are not careful, they can slow down your site.

Third, remember that not all visitors will have access to high-speed internet connections. If your video is large or high-definition, it may take longer to load for visitors with slower connections.

Finally, keep in mind that videos can be a distraction from the rest of your content. Make sure that the video you are adding is relevant to the page it is on and that it enhances the overall experience for your visitors.

Option 2: Use an HTML5 video player

If you want more control over your video player, or need to use a provider that isn’t supported by our Video Block, you can use an HTML5 video player. This option requires a bit more code, but gives you more control over the look and feel of your video player.

To use our Video Block:

  1. In the Home Menu, click Pages.
  2. Click the + icon next to the page where you want to add your video.
  3. In the Blocks panel, click Video.
  4. In the Content Editor, click Enter URL.
  5. Paste in the URL for your video from YouTube or Vimeo.

To use an HTML5 video player:

  1. In the Home Menu, click Pages.
  2. In the Blocks panel, click Code.
  3. In the Code Editor, paste in your embed code from your video provider.

Option 1 is easier because you don’t need to know coding in order to add a video URL into the block. However, Option 2 gives you more control over your video player.
