How Do I Add Attributes to Variations in WooCommerce?

Last updated on January 18, 2023 @ 12:36 pm

If you’ve ever wanted to add extra data to your WooCommerce product variations, then this guide is for you. By default, each variation in WooCommerce only has a few attributes such as price, stock status, and weight.

However, you can add as many custom attributes as you like using the WooCommerce product attribute taxonomies.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to add extra data to your product variations using the product attribute taxonomies. We’ll also show you how to style this data using HTML tags.

What Are Product Attribute Taxonomies?

Product attribute taxonomies are a way of adding extra data to your products and variations. They work by allowing you to add custom fields to each variation. You can then use these fields to store any data you like, such as color, size, or material.

Product attribute taxonomies are stored in the WordPress database as terms in a custom taxonomy. This means they can be easily added and removed from products and variations using the standard WordPress interface.

How To Add Attributes To Variations

Adding attributes to variations is easy with WooCommerce. Simply go to the product page and click on the ‘Attributes’ tab. From here, you can add as many attributes as you like.

Once you’ve added your attributes, they will appear on the front-end of your site in a drop-down menu. Your customers will then be able to select the variation they want based on the attributes you’ve set.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with code or do not feel comfortable editing your theme files, we recommend that you seek help from a developer. Adding attributes to variations can be done by editing your product-variation.php template file.
