How Do I Add Cname to Shopify?

Last updated on October 2, 2022 @ 1:53 am

Adding a CNAME record to your DNS zone file for your domain allows you to specify that a subdomain of your domain is hosted on a different server. You can use a CNAME record to point a subdomain of your domain, such as www.example.com, to another domain name, such as example.herokuapp.com.

This can be useful when you are using a service that provides a domain name for you and you want to use a subdomain of your own domain with that service. For example, you can use a CNAME record to point the www subdomain to the Heroku-provided domain name for your application.

To add a CNAME record for your domain:

  1. Log in to the DNS management interface for your domain’s DNS.
  2. Locate the page where you can add or edit DNS records for your domain.
  3. Create a new CNAME record with the following values:

Hostname: The hostname you want to use for your subdomain, such as www.example.com

Points to address or value: The address that you want the hostname to resolve to, such as example.com

TTL: The time-to-live (TTL) value for the record, which specifies how long the server should cache information about the record.

Note: When you are finished adding records, be sure to save your changes.
