If you’re using Shopify Payments, then your taxes are calculated automatically. However, if you’re using a third-party payment gateway, then you need to add your tax code to Shopify.

There are two ways to do this:

From your Shopify admin

1.From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Taxes.
2. Under “Calculate taxes based on”, select the location where your business is based.
3. In the “Default tax rates” section, click Add rate.
4. Enter the details for your tax code, then click Save.
5. Repeat this process for each of the countries where you want to charge taxes.

From your Shopify POS

  1. Go to Shopify POS. Tap Products.
  2. Tap the product that you want to add a tax code to, then tapEdit product.
  3. Under “Price and Inventory”, enter the amount of tax that should be applied to the product in the “Taxes” field.
  4. You can also add a description of the tax code in the optional “Tax Code Description” field.
  5. Tap“Save”
  6. .

PRO TIP: If you are planning to add your tax code to Shopify, be aware that there is a potential for error. Make sure that you have the correct tax code for your business before you proceed. Adding the wrong tax code could result in over- or under-paying your taxes, so it’s important to get it right.
