How Do I Add PayPal Payments to WooCommerce?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 5:56 pm

Adding PayPal payments to WooCommerce is a great way to streamline the payment process for your customers. By integrating PayPal with WooCommerce, you can provide your customers with a seamless checkout experience, and make it easier for them to pay for their purchases.

There are a few different ways to add PayPal payments to WooCommerce, and we’ll walk you through each one.

Option 1: Use the WooCommerce PayPal Gateway Plugin

The easiest way to add PayPal payments to WooCommerce is by using the WooCommerce PayPal Gateway plugin. This plugin adds a dedicated PayPal gateway to your WooCommerce store, which can be used by customers to pay for their orders. The plugin is free and available from the WordPress plugin repository. Once installed and activated, you’ll need to configure the plugin settings.

To do this, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments.

You’ll see the newly added “PayPal” section near the top of the page. Click on it to open the settings. The first thing you need to do is enter your PayPal email address in the “PayPal Email” field. This is where you’ll receive payments from customers who use this gateway.

Next, you need to choose a “Payment Type”. You can choose between “Instant Payment Notification (IPN)” or “ PDT/EC (Parallel Payment)”.

If you’re not sure which one to choose, we recommend sticking with IPN.

The next setting is “Payment Action”. This setting determines how funds are captured when a customer pays for an order using this gateway. You can choose between “Authorize Only” or “Sale”. If you choose “Authorize Only”, funds will only be authorized when an order is placed, but they won’t be captured until you manually do so from your WooCommerce order page.

If you choose “Sale”, funds will be both authorized and captured when an order is placed. We recommend choosing this option unless you have a specific reason not to.

PRO TIP: When adding PayPal payments to WooCommerce, be sure to use a valid and current PayPal account. Additionally, be sure that your PayPal account is set up to accept payments from WooCommerce. Failure to do so may result in failed or declined transactions.

The final setting is “Invoice Prefix”. This setting allows you to specify a prefix for your PayPal invoices.

This can be helpful if you have multiple businesses and want to keep track of which orders came from which business. Once you’ve configured these settings, click on the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

Option 2: Use the WooCommerce Stripe Gateway Plugin

Another option for adding PayPal payments to WooCommerce is by using the WooCommerce Stripe Gateway plugin.

This plugin adds a dedicated Stripe gateway to your WooCommerce store, which can be used by customers to pay for their orders using their credit cards or debit cards. The plugin also supports Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Microsoft Pay.

The Stripe gateway accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, Diners Club, and SEPA Direct Debit (for European customers). It also supports 3D Secure 2.

To use this plugin, you first need to sign up for a Stripe account (if you don’t have one already). Once you have an account, install and activate the plugin on your WordPress site.

After configuring the settings mentioned in Option 1 or Option 2 , click on the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the page to save your changes – That’s it! You have now successfully added PayPal payments to your WooCommerce store.
