Last updated on January 11, 2023 @ 7:11 pm

Adding a sales tax to your Shopify store is a simple process that can be completed in just a few minutes. Here’s how:

PRO TIP: Adding sales tax on Shopify can be tricky and if not done correctly, could result in overpaying or underpaying taxes to the government. We recommend consulting with a tax professional before adding sales tax to your Shopify store.

    1. Log in to your Shopify account and go to Settings.

    2. From the Settings page, select Payment Providers.

    3. On the Payment Providers page, find the Sales Tax section and click on the Edit link.

    4. On the Edit Sales Tax page, select the Enable sales tax on orders checkbox.

    5. Enter the rate, which is the percentage of tax that you want to charge, in the Rate (%) field. For example, if you want to charge a 10% sales tax, you would enter 10 in this field.

    6. In the Country, select the country where you want to charge sales tax.

If you want to charge sales tax in multiple countries, you can create separate rates for each country by clicking on the “Add rate” link.

    7. When you’re finished adding rates, click on the “Save”button.

That’s it! You’ve now added a sales tax to your Shopify store.
Remember, you can always come back and edit your sales tax settings at any time by going back to the Payment Providers page and clicking on the Edit link next to Sales Tax.
