How Do I Change the Sequence Number in WooCommerce?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 5:05 pm

If you’re using WooCommerce to sell products on your WordPress site, you may want to change the default product order sequence number. By default, WooCommerce assigns products a sequential order number – product #1 is first, product #2 is second, and so on.

You can easily change the sequence number of a product in WooCommerce. Simply edit the product in question and change the “menu_order” value.

The menu_order value determines the product’s position in relation to other products; a lower number means the product will appear first in lists of products, while a higher number means it will appear further down the list.

For example, let’s say you want to move product #5 ahead of product #4. Edit product #5 and change its menu_order from 5 to 4; now when you view your products list, product #5 will appear ahead of product #4.

You can use this technique to rearrange your products in any order you like.

PRO TIP: If you change the sequence number in WooCommerce, it may break some of the functionality on your store. Use this setting at your own risk.

Changing a product’s order does not affect its SKU (stock keeping unit) or other unique identifying information; it only changes the sequence number WooCommerce assigns to the product for ordering purposes. If you need to change a product’s SKU or other identifying information, you’ll need to edit the product details directly.

To change the sequence number of a WooCommerce product:

  1. Edit the desired product.
  2. In the Product Data section, change the value of “menu_order.”
  3. Click “Update.”

The new sequence number will take effect immediately.

You can easily change the sequence number of a WooCommerceproduct by editing the menu_order value.

This will rearrange your products in any order you like.
