If you’re using the Marquee tool to make a selection, you may want to change the shape of the selection area. By default, the Marquee tool is set to make a rectangular selection, but you can easily change it to make a circular or elliptical selection instead. Here’s how:

First, open the image you want to edit in Photoshop. Then, select the Marquee tool from the toolbar on the left. You can also press the M key on your keyboard to select the Marquee tool.

Next, click and drag your mouse over the area you want to select. As you do this, you’ll see a rectangular selection area appear.

To change the shape of this selection area, simply hold down the Shift key while you click and drag. Doing this will constrain theselection area to a perfect square.

If you want to make a circular selection instead of a square one, hold down the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Mac) while you click and drag with the Marquee tool. This will create a selection area that’s constrained to a perfect circle.

To create an elliptical selection, hold down both the Shift and (Mac) or (Windows) keys while dragging withthe Marquee tool.

Once you’ve made your selection, you can release the mouse button and then release the keys. The shape of your marquee tool will now be changed accordingly.

PRO TIP: When using the Marquee tool in Photoshop, be aware that you can change the shape of the marquee by right-clicking on the image. This will bring up a menu with several options, including Circle, Diamond, and Square. Choose the shape you want and then click on OK.

In order to change the shape of a marquee tool in Photoshop, simply hold down either the ‘Shift’, ‘Alt’, or ‘Option’ key while dragging the mouse over the desired area. Doing so will constrain the marquee tool to a perfect square, circle, or ellipse respectively.
