How Do I Charge VAT on WooCommerce?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 5:21 am

When you make a sale through WooCommerce, you may be required to pay Value Added Tax (VAT). This is a tax that is added to the price of goods and services in the European Union (EU).

If you are registered for VAT in the EU, you will need to charge VAT on your sales. You can do this by adding a WooCommerce plugin that will calculate the VAT for you. There are many plugins available, but we recommend the WooCommerce VAT plugin.

Once you have installed and activated the plugin, you will need to configure it. The first thing you need to do is enter your VAT registration number. You can find this on your VAT return. If you are registered for VAT in multiple countries, you will need to add each registration number.

The next thing you need to do is choose which countries you want to charge VAT in.

By default, the plugin will charge VAT in all EU countries. If you only want to charge VAT in certain countries, you can deselect the countries that you do not want to charge in.

The last thing you need to do is choose how you want the plugin to calculate the VAT. The plugin can either calculate the VAT using the country of origin or destination principle. The country of origin principle means that the VAT is calculated based on the country where the goods are shipped from. The destination principle means that the VAT is calculated based on the country where the goods are shipped to.
