PRO TIP: PNG to SVG conversion in Photoshop may result in the loss of some image data.

PNG is a widely used format for storing images, but it isn’t as widely supported as SVG. If you need to convert a PNG image to SVG in Photoshop, you can use the Image> Convert to Image Layer menu item. The resulting Image will have the exact resolution as the PNG file but will be in SVG format.

Another roundabout way to achieve the conversion of PNG to SVG format outcome is elaborated below:

First, drag and drop your PNG file into Photoshop, then Ctrl/Cmd + click the layer to highlight the PNG image.

Highlight the PNG file

Next, click the rectangular marquee tool and hover it in your Image. Then, right-click and select Make Work Path. A tolerance dialog box will appear, prompting you to adjust the path selection tolerance. Adjust it until you’re satisfied, then click Ok.

Your PNG image should now have vector paths. Now go to the Selection tool, hover it in your Image, and then right-click and select Create Vector Mask. Lastly, press Enter to remove the highlighted paths. You can then resize your Image and check if it acts like a vector.

Finally, to export your file, go to Export>Export As and select SVG format in the file settings. You can further adjust your Image and canvas size from here before clicking Export.
