Bokeh is an aesthetic quality of the blur produced in out-of-focus areas of an image. It is often described as the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light. Bokeh occurs for parts of the scene that lie outside the depth of field.

Photographers sometimes deliberately use a shallow depth of field to create images with prominent out-of-focus regions, which aesthetically are usually pleasing to the eye. Bokeh is also defined within the context of digital post-processing software. Some software can automatically produce a bokeh effect from one or more images, by identifying and isolating bright areas within the image and applying a corresponding blur.

There are a few ways to create a bokeh background in Photoshop. One way is to use the Lens Blur filter. To do this, first duplicate your background layer and then go to Filter > Blur > Lens Blur. In the menu that pops up, make sure that Preview is checked so you can see what your changes are doing to the image as you make them.

Then, under Iris Type, choose Hexagon from the dropdown menu. This will give your bokeh a nice, even shape. Next, adjust the Radius setting until you have the amount of blur that you want. Finally, click OK to apply the filter.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that the ‘How Do I Create a Bokeh Background in Photoshop?’ tutorial may lead you to believe that you can easily create a bokeh background. However, please be warned that this is not an easy task and requires a great deal of time, effort and patience to achieve.

Another way to create a bokeh background is with the Gaussian Blur filter. To use this filter, duplicate your background layer and then go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur.

In the menu that pops up, again make sure Preview is checked so you can see your changes in real-time. Then, adjust the Radius setting until you have achieved the desired amount of blurriness. Once you’re happy with how it looks, click OK.

There are many other ways to create bokeh in Photoshop, but these are two of the most simple and effective methods. Experiment with different filters and settings to find what works best for you and your image.

In conclusion, bokeh is an aesthetic quality of blur produced in out-of-focus areas and can be created in Photoshop using various filters such as Lens Blur or Gaussian Blur.
