How Do I Create a Custom URL on Squarespace?

Last updated on December 28, 2022 @ 8:47 pm

There are two ways to create a custom URL on Squarespace: by using a domain that you already own, or by purchasing a new domain from Squarespace. We’ll cover both methods below.

If you already have a domain that you want to use with your Squarespace site, you can link it to your site by following these steps:

    1. Log in to your Squarespace account and go to the Dashboard.

    2. Click the arrow next to the website that you want to edit, and then click Domains.

    3. Under “Connect a Domain,” enter the domain name that you want to use and click Continue. If you see a message asking if you want to buy the domain, click No Thanks.

    4. On the next page, select DNS & Nameservers and note the four nameservers listed.

    5. Go to wherever you manage your domain’s DNS (this is usually where you bought your domain) and update your DNS records. The records you’ll need to add are:

    • An A record with @ pointing to 192.168.1.1
    • An A record with www pointing to 192.1
    • Four CNAME records for blog, email, ftp, and webmail pointing to dnsimple-proxy-a3d40feb5e8b9418e03c2a55487460afc0f.

    6. Once your DNS records have been updated, return to the Domains page in Squarespace and click Continue.

    7. On the next page, select Use an Existing Domain and click Attach Domain.

That’s it! Your custom domain will now work with your Squarespace site.

PRO TIP: When creating a custom URL on Squarespace, be sure to use a unique and descriptive word or phrase. Avoid using any personal information, as this could lead to identity theft.
