How Do I Create a Figma File?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 11:17 pm

When you’re ready to start designing in Figma, the first thing you need to do is create a file. You can do this by going to File > New > File, or by pressing the shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + N.

This will open up a new window where you can choose what type of file you’d like to create. For most design projects, you’ll want to choose the “Design System” file type. This type of file is perfect for creating reusable components and styles that can be used throughout your project.

Once you’ve selected the “Design System” file type, you’ll be given the option to name your file and choose where you’d like to save it. Once you’ve done this, click “Create” and your new Figma file will be created!

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with Figma, we recommend that you seek out a tutorial or ask a friend for help before attempting to create a file. Incorrectly creating a Figma file can result in lost work and frustration.

Creating a Figma file is a quick and easy process that allows you to get started on your design project right away. By choosing the “Design System” file type, you can ensure that your project will have a consistent look and feel throughout.
