How Do I Create an ICC Profile in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 11:55 pm

ICC profiles are essential for getting the most accurate color possible when printing images. They help ensure that the colors you see on your screen are the same as the colors that will be printed on your paper. Photoshop has a built-in tool for creating ICC profiles, which can be used to create profiles for both RGB and CMYK color spaces.

1. To create an ICC profile in Photoshop, open the Color Settings dialog box by going to Edit > Color Settings.

2. In the Color Settings dialog box, click the “Profile” tab.

3. Under “RGB Working Space”, choose the color space you want to use for your ICC profile. AdobeRGB or sRGB are good choices for general use.

4. Under “CMYK Working Space”, choose the color space you want to use for your ICC profile. US web Coated (SWOP) v2 or Europe web Coated (FOGRA39) are good choices for general use.

5. Make sure the “Use Dithering” checkbox is selected, and then click “OK”.

6. Now go to File > Save As, and save your image as a TIFF file with an .icc profile extension. Photoshop will automatically embed the ICC profile in the TIFF file.

PRO TIP: When creating an ICC profile in Photoshop, be sure to use the correct color space for your needs. If you are not sure which color space to use, ask a professional for help.
