How Do I Edit Alt Text in Wix?

Last updated on January 1, 2023 @ 11:57 am

Alt text, also known as “alternative text” or “alt tags,” is a brief description of an image that is displayed when the image can’t be shown. Alt text is important for accessibility and SEO, as it helps people with disabilities understand the content of an image and provides search engines with information about the image.

Here’s how you can edit alt text in Wix:

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

  1. Go to the page on your Wix site where the image you want to edit is located.
  2. Click on the image to select it.
  3. In the top menu, click the “Change Image” button.
  4. In the “Change Image” menu, click the “Alt Text” tab.
  5. Type in the new alt text for the image and click “Apply.”

That’s it! Your alt text will now be updated and will be displayed when the image can’t be shown.

Keep in mind that alt text should be brief and describe the content of the image as accurately as possible. Avoid using non-descriptive alt text such as “image” or “picture,” and avoid using the same alt text for multiple images.

If you’re not sure what alt text to use, try to describe the image as if you were explaining it to someone who can’t see it. For example, if the image is a picture of a cat sitting in a basket, the alt text might be “cat sitting in a basket.”

PRO TIP: If you are trying to edit the Alt text in your Wix website, be aware that this could potentially impact the search engine optimization (SEO) of your site. Alt text is used to describe the contents of an image, and if you change it, it could affect how your site appears in search results. Proceed with caution and be sure to consult with a SEO expert before making any changes.
