How Do I Fix Translation Missing on Shopify?

Last updated on January 13, 2023 @ 2:12 am

If you’re using Shopify to run your online store, you may have come across the “translation missing” error message. This error can be caused by a number of things, but most often it’s due to one of the following:

    1. You’re using a theme that isn’t compatible with Shopify’s translation feature.

    2. Your Shopify account isn’t set up for multiple languages.

    3. The language you’re trying to translate your store into isn’t supported by Shopify.

Fortunately, there are a few simple steps you can take to fix the “translation missing” error and start selling to customers in multiple languages:

    1. Update to a compatible theme
If you’re using an older theme, it may not be compatible with Shopify’s translation feature.
To fix this, simply update to the latest version of your theme. If you’re using a custom theme, contact your developer and ask them to update the theme.

    2. Enable multiple languages in your Shopify account
If you haven’t already done so, you’ll need to enable multiple languages in your Shopify account.
To do this, go to Shopify Admin > Settings > General. Under the “Store languages” heading, check the box next to “Enable multiple languages”.

    3. Choose the language you want to translate your store into
Once you’ve enabled multiple languages in your account, go to Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes.
Under “Actions”, click on “Edit Languages”. From here, you can choose the language you want to translate your store into from the “Add a new language” drop-down menu.

    4. Add translations for each string of text in your store
Now that you’ve selected the language you want to translate your store into, it’s time to add translations for each string of text. To do this, go to Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes. Select the language you want to add translations for from the “Current translations” drop-down menu and click on “Add translation”.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully fixed the “translation missing” error and can now start selling to customers in multiple languages.

PRO TIP: If you see the error message “translation missing” on your Shopify store, it means that the language you are using is not supported by Shopify. To fix this, you will need to switch to a supported language.
