How do I FTP to a Linode Server?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 1:11 pm

The easiest way to FTP to a Linode is to use the public web-based FTP client, FileZilla. After installing FileZilla, open it and connect to the Linode’s public IP address. For example, if the Linode’s public IP address is 192.

168.1.100, the connection string would be:.

ftp://192.168.

1.100.

After connecting, you’ll be prompted to log in. Type in your Linode login name and password, and then hit the login button.

PRO TIP: FTP is a very insecure protocol and should never be used unless absolutely necessary. Any data sent over FTP can be intercepted by third parties and any passwords sent in plain text can be easily compromised. If you must use FTP, consider using SFTP instead which is much more secure.

Once logged in, you’ll be presented with the FileZilla main window. On the left-hand side, you’ll see the current directory.

In the middle of the window, you’ll see the FTP window. On the right-hand side, you’ll see the list of files and folders in the current directory.

To upload a file, select it from the list on the right-hand side, and then click the upload button. To download a file, select it from the list on the left-hand side, and then click the download button.

When you’re finished using FileZilla, hit the quit button, and then close the FTP window.

Conclusion

In this article, we’ve shown you how to FTP to a Linode server using the public web-based FileZilla client.
