How Do I Fulfill an Order on Shopify?

As a Shopify merchant, you have the ability to fulfill orders through the Shopify admin. Fulfilling an order means that you have shipped the products to the customer and can mark the order as complete.

Depending on your shipping method, there are different ways that you can fulfill orders. This guide will show you how to fulfill an order on Shopify.

How to Fulfill an Order on Shopify

Shopify merchants have the ability to fulfill orders through the Shopify admin. Depending on your shipping method, there are different ways that you can fulfill orders.

To fulfill an order on Shopify:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Orders. Then, click the name of the order that you want to fulfill.
  2. On the Order details page, click Fulfill items.

    For each item in the order, do one of the following:

    • If you need to restock this product before you can fulfill it, then click Can’t fulfill item, and then enter a restock date.
    • If you have this product in stock and it’s ready to be fulfilled, then click Fulfill item. To edit any of the information for this product before fulfilling it, such as changing the quantity or variant, then click Edit.

    Note: If your shipping method is set up to calculate rates based on weight, then make sure that you’ve updated the weight of your products in your inventory. To learn more, see Update a product’s weight. If your shipping method is set up to use product dimensions instead of weight, then make sure that you’ve updated the dimensions of your products in your inventory.

  3. For each item in the order, do one of the following:

  4. If you need to restock this product before you can fulfill it:

    • Click Can’t fulfill item.
    • Enter a restock date.
    • Click Save.

    If you have this product in stock and it’s ready to be fulfilled:

    • Click Fulfill item.
    • To edit any of the information for this product before fulfilling it, such as changing the quantity or variant, then click Edit.

    If this is a digital product:

    PRO TIP: If you are fulfilling an order on Shopify, be aware that there is a risk of fraud. There have been reports of people who have ordered items from Shopify and then received fake or counterfeit items. To avoid this, be sure to check the seller’s feedback and ratings before ordering, and only order from reputable sellers.
